_ M M <br />PROPOSED GIFFORD YOUTH ACTIVITIES CENTER <br />MISSION: With God's guidance, our vision is to establish a part- <br />nership among youth;'adults, and the Gifford Community that de- <br />velops self-esteem, teaches character, and encourages each child <br />to his/her ultimate potential. <br />PURPOSE: The Gifford Youth Center, utilizing churches, adult, <br />peer and community support, will provide meaningful programs and <br />activities to develop youth for reponsible productive adulthood <br />and prepare them for leadership roles in the home and community. <br />GOALS: <br />Educate, mentor and/or counsel each child in response to <br />his/her needs. <br />To develop long term goals <br />To build moral and ethical values <br />Provide positive role models <br />Build hope and self esteem <br />Develop community leadership <br />Strengthen work ethic <br />Build understanding from parents and community -minded adults <br />Develop understanding of importance of continued education <br />Educate on substance abuse <br />Understanding of one's culture and heritage <br />Strengthen child/parent relationships <br />Educate parents on parenting <br />METHODS OF OPERATION: <br />Set up short-term objectives that promote sucess and recog- <br />nition. <br />Require involvement from adults, parents, and/or guardians <br />as a prerequisite of child's participation (sponsor a child) <br />The Gifford Youth Activities Center will be managed by the <br />Gifford Progressive Civic League with program assistance <br />from the Indian River County Recreation Department. <br />The Gifford Youth Activities Center will be financed by the <br />Gifford Community, Indian River County Board of County com- <br />missioners, endowments, grants, and other contributions. <br />Involve churches in educational programs to promote values. <br />Work with Indian River County Recreation Department, Indian <br />River Community College and Indian River County Education <br />Department to establish new programs and utilize existing <br />programs. <br />Build understanding support from churches, businesses, in- <br />dividuals, civic groups and community. <br />Educate on damaging effects of substance abuse and crime. <br />Educate on alternatives to welfare system and how to build <br />financial self sufficiency. <br />Develop a mentoring program. <br />29 <br />September 10, 1996 '99 wa 49 <br />
