BOOK 99 fAu 16Z <br />JOHN'S ISLAND CLUB INVITATION FOR STAFF TO PARTICIPATE <br />IN "PUBLIC SAFETY DAY" GOLF OUTING <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum of September 9, 1996: <br />TO: Honorable Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: Jim Chandler, County Adm'nistrator <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director <br />Emergency Services <br />DATE: September 9, 1996 <br />SUBJECT: Invitation From John's Island Club For Staff To <br />Participate In "Public Safety Day" Golf Outing <br />Since 1990, John's Island -Club has sponsored a "Public Safety Day" <br />golf outing at one of the three courses operated by John's Island. <br />The inaugural tournament was proposed as an expression of <br />appreciation for the assistance in suppressing a fire at the John's <br />Island West Clubhouse. Since the inaugural tournament, the <br />invitations have been extended to include all county and municipal <br />public safety agencies which includes firefighters, paramedics, law <br />enforcement officers, dispatchers, and administrative staff. <br />A letter has been received from John's Island Club General Manager <br />Brian Kroh inviting all Emergency Services staff to attend and <br />participate in the annual "Public Safety Day" event. The event is <br />scheduled for September 29, 1996, at 9:OOAM. <br />In January, 1995, the Board approved revisions to Chapter 104 which <br />allows for Commission approval of such events on a case by case <br />basis. Section 104.06 (5)(b).(8) states "The prohibitions <br />enumerated in paragraph (a) and (c) of this section do not apply in <br />the situations enumerated below: ". . . Local outings offered to <br />all county employees or with prior approval of the Board of County <br />Commissioners, units of county employees." <br />Emergency Services employees did participate in the event last year <br />after receiving approval from the Board of County Commissioners. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff respectfully requests favorable consideration by the Board of <br />the invitation from John's Island for Emergency Services staff to <br />participate in the golf outing. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously approved <br />participation of Emergency Services staff in the <br />golf outing, as recommended by staff. <br />SEPTEMBER 17, 1996 38 <br />
