B®®K 99 170 <br />O <br />JTC invites Indian River County commissioners and staff to work in <br />partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment Security. the Vero <br />Beach,'Indian River County Chamber of Commerce and all other community <br />agencies to accomplish this mission. By working in partnership to develop a <br />workforce for new and expanding businesses in Indian River County. we can <br />reduce unemployment and improve the county's economic base. <br />Under the states Workforce Act passed into law July 1. 1996. a Jobs <br />and Education Partnership Board (JEP) was established for Region 20 which <br />includes Indian River. Martin. Okeechobee and St. Lucie Counties that will <br />administrate and coordinate all job training and employment programs that are <br />publicly funded. September 1. 199E the JTC was awarded a contract to <br />perform job training and employment services for the JE P. Recognizing that <br />.a each county in Region 20 has unique workforce development requirements. <br />a JTC is requesting to form a partnership with each individual county to meet <br />those needs. <br />In Indian River County. Rio Mar Yachts. X -L Vision. Indian River <br />Memorial Hospital and DavCo have been targeted as new and expanding <br />businesses in the most immediate need of workforce development. JTC <br />respectfully requests that the Indian River County Commission and staff join <br />our partnership to meet those needs. <br />Commissioner Eggert advised that Job Training Center, Inc. has <br />asked the County to agree to form a partnership with the Department <br />of Labor and Employment Security, the Vero Beach/Indian River <br />County Chamber of Commerce and other community agencies so that <br />they can go as a group to different people who want training. <br />In response to a question from Commissioner Bird, Commissioner <br />Eggert confirmed that there is no financial obligation, just an <br />expression of support. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously approved <br />the working partnership with the Department of Labor <br />and Employment Security, the Vero Beach/Indian River <br />County Chamber of Commerce, the Job Training Center, <br />Inc., and other community agencies as proposed by <br />the Job Training Center, Inc. <br />OLD COURTHOUSE COMMENTS <br />(POSTPONED FROM SEPTEMBER 10, 1996 MEETING) <br />Commissioner Macht recommended that the Board direct staff to <br />entertain proposals to market the properties (the old courthouse <br />building, the old annex building and the old state attorney's <br />offices) for the best benefit to the County and its taxpayers. <br />County Administrator Chandler confirmed that staff's <br />recommendation is to market the old courthouse and annex building <br />as one site. <br />SEPTEMBER 17, 1996 46 <br />
