40 <br />40 <br />40 <br />the categories of preferred, marginal and non-compliant. <br />Preferred characteristics of this facility include: <br />• The buildings and its' access road are located outside the Category 5 storm surge innundation. <br />• The buildings and its' access road are located outside the 500 -year floodplain (Zone 7Q. <br />• A clearly defined, continuous loadpath from roof to foundation is present. <br />• The building was in good condition with no apparent signs of deterioration. <br />• The buildings' exterior walls are constructed of fully reinforced masonry. <br />• No evidence of degradation is present on roof. <br />No verification of wind parameters used in desig but a 1992 design generally meets high wind <br />requirements. <br />Marginal characteristics of this facility include: <br />• The building has a lightweight roof system. <br />• The building is within the Vulnerability Zone of two Section 302 facilities but with low release <br />potential. <br />• The building has unprotected windows and doors that lead into shelter areas. <br />Non-compliant characteristic of this facility include: <br />• Several hazards within lay -down range of building. <br />The building has a roof span that exceeds 40 feet. <br />Retrofit Recommendation: <br />Ma <br />j r <br />• Have a structural engineer evaluate roof system to determine modifications required to resist <br />uplift and bending forces. <br />• Install shutters or other protective systems on unprotected systems windows to exterior doors to <br />meet the SBC Standard SSTD 12-94 of Dade County version of the South Florida Building <br />Code (Section 2314.1, 2314.5 and 1-2314.4). <br />Minor (Please note that while these minor retrofit recommendations will enhance the integrity of <br />shelter space evaluated they will not increase potential usable shelter square footage.) <br />• Remove potential lay -down hazards. <br />• Remove potential debris hazards. <br />• Secure portable classrooms and mobile homes on the site. <br />
