Proclamation <br />DECLARING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2024 AS NATIONAL <br />DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH <br />Whereas, domestic violence is a pervasive issue that transcends all ethnic, racial, and <br />socioeconomic boundaries. It is a pattern of behavior involving physical, emotional, sexual, or economic <br />abuse perpetrated by an intimate partner; and <br />-Whereas, domestic violence is a crime with far-reaching consequences, affecting victims of all <br />genders, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds; and <br />-Whereas, the home, a place intended to be a sanctuary, is often the site of domestic violence, <br />making it a hidden crime with devastating impacts on individuals, families, and communities; and <br />-Whereas, October is designated as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month to raise <br />awareness about this critical issue, encourage prevention efforts, and support survivors; and <br />'Whereas, it is essential to acknowledge the courage of survivors who break the cycle of abuse and <br />seek help and to commend the dedicated professionals who provide support and services to victims. Indian <br />River County is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all residents and working <br />collaboratively with community partners to prevent domestic violence and provide support to survivors. <br />Naw, 9 -herefore, be it Proclaimedby the Boardof County Commissioners ofIndian <br />River County, FCorida, we recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and express <br />our sincere appreciation for those committed to promoting peace and preventing domestic violence in our <br />community. <br />Adopted this 8th day of October, 2024.
