He praised the department's commitment to saving <br />money by quickly rejecting a $1.6 million quote from an out-of-town vendor for work <br />that was initially estimated to cost around $300,000. <br />Beth Powell, the Director of Parks, Recreation & Conservation, shared that despite <br />the department's unsuccessful application for a Florida Recreation Development <br />Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant two and a half years ago, they have taken steps <br />to move the project forward. She discussed the challenges faced with the high cost of <br />the slide and the limited experience of the selected general contractor. However, the <br />purchasing department proactively explored purchasing options by meeting with <br />multiple slide vendors and had obtained three quotes.
