Keating, AICP Auk, <br />Community Development Director <br />DATE: October 14, 1996 <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST TO ENTER INTO A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION JOINT <br />PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT WITH TBE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal <br />consideration by the Board of County Commissioners at their regular <br />meeting of October 22, 1996. <br />In August 1996, the Indian River County Board of County <br />Commissioners approved the submittal of an application <br />for Federal Transit Administration grant funds under 49 <br />USC Ch. 53, Section 5307 (formerly known as Section 9 of <br />the Federal Transit Act). The grant application <br />requested $754,133 in federal Section 5307 grant funds, <br />which were to be matched by $311,243 in cash funds. Of <br />the $311,243 match amount, $112,655 was to come from a <br />state Public Transit Block Grant, and $198,588 was to be <br />provided by Indian River County and the City of Vero <br />Beach. In order to obtain the $112,655 Public Transit <br />Block Grant, the County must enter into a Joint <br />Participation Agreement (JPA) with the Florida Department <br />of Transportation (FDOT). The JPA specifies the <br />requirements which the County must meet in order to <br />receive Public Transit Block Grant funding. A complete <br />copy of the JPA is available for review in the offices of <br />the Board of County Commissioners, and a resolution <br />authorizing the Board Chairman to sign the JPA is <br />attached to this staff report. Staff recommends that the <br />Board of County Commissioners approve the attached <br />Public Transportation Joint Participation Agreement and <br />adopt the attached resolution authorizing the Chairman to <br />sign the agreement. <br />OCTOBER 22, 1996 9 <br />99 .Pa'c 477 <br />
