Keating, AICP !/ <br />Community Development Directo - <br />FROM: Sasan Rohani, AICP - <br />Chief, Long -Range Planning <br />DATE: October 24, 1996 <br />SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF LAND EXCHANGE FOR THE RELOCATION OF <br />LUNDBERG ROAD AND ADDITIONAL 58TH AVENUE RIGHT-OF-WAY <br />ACQUISITION <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of County <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of November 5, 1996. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS: <br />Lundberg Road is an east/west road located approximately one half mile south of S.R. 60. Starting <br />at 58th Avenue, Lundberg Road runs to the west providing access to Indian River Community <br />College and other facilities. <br />Presently located within the right-of-way of the Main Relief Canal, Lundberg Road is the only paved <br />access to the Indian River County campus of Indian River Community College (IRCC). Because <br />Lundberg Road intersects with 58th Avenue at a sharp angle close to the main relief canal bridge, <br />the present alignment of the road is dangerous. Since IRCC plans a substantial expansion and that <br />expansion will increase Lundberg Road traffic volume, there is a need to relocate the road. <br />For these reasons, county public works staff has for the past year been working to relocate Lundberg <br />Road. In assessing the area, public works and planning staffs have determined that the best <br />alignment would be along the north boundary of the Banack property (adjacent property owner). <br />Locating Lundberg Road at that location would resolve the safety issue, and provide better <br />accessability for adjacent property. Proximate to Lundberg Road, 58th Avenue is also being <br />expanded, and additional 58th Avenue right-of-way is needed. <br />Although Lundberg Road is located within Indian River Farms Water Control District right-of-way, <br />the county owns a 61.7 foot wide road right-of-way adjacent to and north of the canal right-of-way. <br />The county's right-of-way, however, is not usable for Lundberg Road relocation because, like the <br />current road, that right-of-way is too close to the main relief canal bridge. That right-of-way, <br />however, is available to exchange for land suitable for Lundberg Road relocation. <br />51 <br />November 5, 1996 <br />Boa 99 wu 568 <br />
