M <br />40 <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />ADOPT -A -ROADWAY <br />LITTER REMOVAL PROCEDURES <br />1. Interested sponsoring organizations/groups should contact the <br />Indian River County Traffic Engineering Division (567-8000 <br />Ext. 326) for copies of the guidelines and contract agreement. <br />(Interested sponsoring organizations/groups wishing to adopt <br />a state highway should contact the Clean Florida Commission <br />Office or the Department of Transportation District Public <br />Information Officer for copies of the guidelines and contract <br />agreement.) <br />2. The following areas may be adopted by a sponsoring group: <br />Any County Roadway <br />Any Local Roadway in the County <br />Any County Park Area <br />Medians are not to be included in this program due to safety <br />factors. <br />3. The Indian River County Public Works Director and Traffic <br />Engineer will screen and select the sections of roadways to be <br />adopted. Groups adopting a section of roadway and street may <br />clean up only on the areas outside the paved right of way and <br />shoulders -12 feet from the outside edge of the -right hand <br />driving lane - in the grassy areas. Parking will be <br />restricted in the work area for safety reasons. <br />4. Five (5) copies of the contract agreement, signed by the group <br />coordinator, should be returned to the Indian River County <br />Public Works Office and then forwarded to the Board of County <br />Commissioners for approval. <br />5. One fully executed contract agreement will be forwarded to the <br />following: <br />(1) Sponsoring organization/group <br />(2) Indian River County Public Works Department <br />(3) Indian River County Traffic Engineering <br />(4) Indian River County Attorney <br />(5) Indian River County Risk Management <br />6. Upon receipt of the executed agreement. Indian River County <br />Traffic Engineer will order the Adopt -A -Roadway permanent sign <br />for group at no cost to the group. Costs will be borne by the <br />Indian River County Public Works Department. <br />7. Safety workshops for the group will be arranged with the <br />Indian River County Traffic Engineering representatives as <br />his/her schedule permits.
