INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA
MEMORANDUM
To: Board of County Commissioners
Through: John Titkanich, Jr., County Administrator
Chris Balter, Planning and Development Services Director
Brian Freeman, AICP; MPO Staff Director
Prepared By: Jim Mann, MPA; MPO Senior Planner
Date: February 12, 2025
Subject: Resolution of Support for County Road 512 Widening Project
It is requested that the information presented herein be given formal consideration by the Board
of County Commissioners at its regular meeting of February 25, 2025.
DESCRIPTION, CONDITIONS, AND ANALYSIS
The Metropolitan Planning Organization's (MPO) 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan includes
the widening of County Road 512 between Willow Street and Interstate 95. County Road 512 is
the major east -west connection through the City of Fellsmere and also provides access to the City
of Sebastian and 1-95 to the east. Widening County Road 512 will increase traffic capacity,
especially during AM/PM peak hour travel times. Currently, County staff is preparing a grant
application to FDOT for funding from the Transportation Regional Incentive Program (TRIP). One
requirement of the application is a Resolution of Support from the Board of County
Commissioners.
In addition to the roadway widening, the planned improvements for this corridor include the
addition of bike lanes, sidewalks, and/or shared use paths along both sides. This will increase the
safety of pedestrians and cyclists along the corridor as these facilities currently do not exist.
On February 12, 2025, the Indian River County MPO added the County Road 512 widening project
to its draft List of Priority Projects (LOPP). Also, this roadway segment is identified as a Tier 1
project in the Treasure Coast 2045 Regional Long Range Transportation Plan.
C:\Granicus\Legistar5\L5\Temp\lleeclfl-eddb-4c4a-9705-59d122fbbf37.docx 98
