XI. ATPC Function Test (As NEEDED) CERUECOPY
CERTIFICATION ON LAST PAGE
RYAN L. BUTLER, CLERK
Description
Verification of ATPC (Automatic TX Power Control). This test will show the ATPC power change as RSL
is reduced. Also, this test will show that the APTC feature will turn back l OdB after a 5 -minute timer of
ATPC High.
Instructions
1. Log on to the Terminal under test if you have not already logged on.
a. Connect a PC with the EM2 software installed via the serial connector on the front of the
terminal labeled "COMPUTER".
b. Open the EM2 software and on the initial log -in screen select "Serial" from the pull down
and choose the appropriate "COM PORT" that the PC is using
c. Enter the username: "admin" (note this cannot be changed) enter the password. The default
password is "password" which can be changed). Once the correct "admin" and "User
password" is entered you will be "logged on" and the displayed terminal icons will go from
gray to yellow to indicate communication with the terminal under test.
2. In the EM2 software go to the "Test" and "RFU Mute" selection and MUTE all the RF portions of
the terminal. Set the time to be "0" so it does not UN -Mute.
Warning — In the field DO NOT Mute the Far End terminal unless you set a time out. You will lose
communication to that terminal which can only be un -muted by logging on locally.
3. Disconnect the RF connection at the waveguide flange of the terminal and insert a variable
attenuator in line with the coordinating terminal and keep the 60dB fixed attenuation.
4. ATPC Function
a. In the EM2 software Go to "Configuration" then "RFU" and click on "ATPC" (toggle).
"ATPC On" will be displayed and hit Apply. Set RX Level to 13dBm below the actual RSL.
b. Set the variable attenuator to "OdB".
c. In the EM2 software Go back to the "Test" then "RFU Mute" screen and set the terminal to
"ONLINE".
d. Observe TX value in EM2 is now 13dBm below initial TX power.
e. Slowly set the Variable attenuator until TX value start to increase and RSL keeps its target
value.
f. Stop when RSL is no longer maintaining its target value, at this point TX power should be
equal to maximum power for the modulation in use.
g. Write down the result.
h. When the TX is at maximum allowed power, the terminal will display a minor alarm.
i. After holding the ATPC feature at full power for more than 5 minutes the ATPC will be
considered passing when it reduces power by l OdB and remains at the reduced value until
the RSL returns to a "normal" operating level. The ATPC feature will then reset allowing
full power of the radio in a reduce RSL condition
j. Repeat for secondary TRCV in HSBY configurations.
Page 25 of
