INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />Department of Public Works <br />Engineering Division Policy <br />Policy Number: 2026-001 <br />Policy Name: Residential Driveway Width <br />Effective Date: January 13, 2026 <br />Purpos : <br />The purpose of this policy is to establish uniform standards for the minimum and maximum <br />widths of residential driveways within the rights-of-way of Indian River County. These <br />standards are intended to ensure public safety, protect County right-of-way infrastructure, <br />provide adequate access for emergency services, and promote consistent engineering and <br />development practices. <br />This policy applies to all residential driveway connections to County rights-of-way only. It <br />applies to new construction, redevelopment, and modifications to existing residential <br />driveways requiring.a permit or County approval. <br />3. Authority: <br />This policy is adopted under the authority of the Indian River County Board of County <br />Commissioners and administered through the County Administrator and the Department of <br />Public Works. Applicable authority includes but is not limited to: - Florida Statutes - Florida <br />Administrative Code - Indian River County Code of Ordinances - Adopted County policies <br />and resolutions. <br />4. Policy Statement: <br />It is the policy of Indian River County that residential driveways shall be designed and <br />constructed to provide safe and reasonable access while minimizing impacts to traffic <br />operations, maintenance, drainage, sidewalks, swales, and other public infrastructure. <br />The following criteria apply to residential driveway widths within the public right-of-way: <br />a. The minimum width shall be 12'. <br />b. The maximum width shall be 24'. <br />c. Each parcel is limited to two driveways, provided the minimum separation and <br />required setbacks from side property lines can be achieved. <br />d. The total combined width of two driveways shall not exceed 36'. <br />e. Driveway width is measured at the point of intersection with right-of-way line. <br />f. If a parcel has road frontage between 76' and 115'the maximum total combined <br />
