Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Inc. intends to apply for a new Cultural <br />Facilities Program Grant for FY 1998-99. The application is due April 11, 1997. If <br />awarded, the money will pay for additional and critically needed Phase One expansion <br />of the existing Visitor Center and begin construction of museum display buildings, <br />research submersible and undersea vehicle exhibits, archive storage, video theater, <br />lecture and workshop classrooms, photo gallery and restrooms. <br />The expanded Harbor Branch Oceanographic Museum and Education Facility will <br />anchor education, cultural and scientific outreach programs for thousands of visitors, <br />students, teachers, scientists, engineers, mariners, submariners and artists throughout <br />the State of Florida and the world. These programs illustrate the profound cultural, <br />economic, scientific and historical associations the people of Florida have had with the <br />sea and expand our awareness of the relationship with the oceans surrounding our <br />community. <br />Project construction is expected to be completed in 1999. Harbor Branch <br />Oceanographic has promised an extraordinary private fund commitment to help pay for <br />construction and program development of this word -class museum and educational <br />facility. <br />Sample letter <br />Ms Peyton C. Letter of Support <br />Cultural Affairs Program <br />Harbor Branch Oceanographic Museum and Education Facility <br />Dear Ms. Fearington, <br />I seek your support for the above referenced grant and will seek legislative support for the <br />Cultural Facilities Program budget during the upcoming fiscal year. <br />On April 11, 1997, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Inc. will have submitted an <br />application for Cultural Facilities Program grant funding to the Florida Arts Council Division <br />of Cultural Affairs on behalf of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Museum and Educational <br />facility located in Fort Pierce, Florida. The requested grant funding for Phase One is for the <br />expansion of the existing Visitor Center and construction of museum display buildings, <br />research submersible and underwater vehicle exhibits, archive storage, video theater, lecture <br />and workshop classrooms, photo gallery and restrooms. <br />The Harbor Branch Oceanographic Museum and Educational facility will anchor expanding <br />educational, cultural and scientific outreach programs for thousands of visitors, students, <br />teachers, scientists and artists throughout the State of Florida.
