Chairman Eggert wanted to know what would it cost to provide higher benefits for
out of state employees and dependents and how many people would be involved.
period.
Director Baker stated that the information could be obtained within a one-week
Commissioner Ginn expected that when someone calls, they would receive
courteous treatment and if they do not, she wanted to be made aware of it.
ON MOTION by Commissioner Macht, SECONDED by
Commissioner Ginn, the Board unanimously approved
tabling this item for 2 weeks.
9.B.2. CANGIANELLI CONSTRUCTION'S USE OF WABASSO BEACH
PARK EXTENDED TO JUNE 1, 1997 - EMERGENCY SEAWALL PERMIT
EXTENDED 90 DAYS (SUMMERPLACE)
The Board reviewed a letter of April 28, 1997; a Memorandum of April 30, 1997; a
letter of May 2, 1997; and a letter of May 1, 1997:
Mr. Jim Chandler April 28, 1997
County Administrator
1840 25th Street
Vero Beach, FL 32960
Dear Mr. Chandler:
With reference to our telephonic conversation on April 28, the Board of County
Commissioners on Tuesday, April 22, suspended the use of Wabasso Beach Park for
construction of the Summerplace seawall by Tuesday, April 29, 1997.
The Northern Summerplace property owners have a partially constructed seawall and have
paid Cangionelli Construction substantial monies towards the construction of the seawall
and have only until June 1, to complete the wall.
The above action will seriously affect the property owners who will not have a seawall and
Mr. Cangionelli may use the excuse of no access to the beach to withhold refunding our
monies and/or meeting his June deadline. The closure of Wabasso Beach Parking lot
will, in fact, be advantageous to Cangionelli Construction and extremely disadvantageous
to the property owners and we are sure the Board's action was intended to do the
opposite.
We also hereby apply for an extension of our emergency permit beyond the current
expiration date of May 1, 1997, to enable us to complete the seawall.
Please schedule a hearing for the property owners represented by Attorney Chester Clem
for the Tuesday, May 6 Commission Board Meeting to present these issues to the Board.
Thank you for your help.
Dirk and Brenda Parvus
PAE
MAY 69 1997 73
