COMPREHENSIVE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLAN <br />APPROVAL <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum dated August 5, 1997: <br />TO: Honorable Board of County Co missioners <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director l <br />Department of Emergency Services <br />DATE: August 5, 1997 <br />SUBJECT: Approval Of The Indian River County Comprehensive Emergency <br />Management Plan (CEMP) <br />Staff has been working diligently to develop a county emergency management plan that is <br />coordinated and consistent with the State of Florida Comprehensive Emergency Management <br />Plan (CEMP) and program in accordance with Chapter 252, Florida Statutes. The CEMP was <br />developed using criteria established by the State Division of Emergency Management. The plan <br />contains provisions to ensure that Indian River County is prepared for emergencies from a minor <br />event to a catastrophic disaster. <br />Staff has held meetings with representatives from the various municipalities, agencies, <br />organizations, and interested citizens to receive input related to the development of this plan. <br />Staff from the Florida Department of Community Affairs, Division of Emergency Management, <br />spent the majority of a week in the County reviewing the plan. On July 23, 1997, a letter was <br />received from the Florida Division of Emergency Management advising that the Indian River <br />County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP) met the compliance criteria <br />contained in Rule Chapters 9G-6 and 9G-7, Florida Administrative Code, and approval of the <br />plan had been granted by the State. <br />The Rule also provides for the Plan to be adopted by resolution by the Board of County <br />Commissioners and the resolution submitted to the State within 90 days of the receipt of the plan <br />approval. Staff is requesting Board approval of the attached resolution to comply with this <br />requirement. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS: <br />The CEMP is an all -hazard, operations oriented document which is submitted to the Board for <br />consideration and approval.
