DeBloiss, -MCP <br />Chief, Environmental Planning <br />DATE: August 26, 1997 <br />RE: Request for Board Approval of Contract Agreement with <br />Summerlin Seven Seas, Inc. for Construction of Boardwalks at <br />the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of County <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of September 2, 1997. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />On July 22, 1997, the Board of County Commissioners awarded a bid contract to Summerlins Seven <br />Seas, Inc. for construction of two boardwalks, an overlook pier, and a canoe landing at the Oslo <br />Riverfront Conservation Area (see attached minutes). The cost of the work as proposed by <br />Summerlin Seven Seas and approved by the Board is $58,640.00. Funding assistance for the work <br />has been awarded by the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) under FIND's Waterways <br />Assistance Program. FIND recently approved an extension to its grant to allow for completion of the <br />boardwalk construction project. <br />Attached is a standard proposed Agreement between Summerlin Seven Seas and Indian River <br />County for the project. Staff requests that the Board authorize the Board Chairman to execute the <br />attached Agreement once it is executed by the contractor. <br />In accordance with County procedure and Chapter 255, Florida Statutes, the contractor is in the <br />process of posting performance and payment bonds relating to the work. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners authorize the Board chairman to execute <br />the attached Agreement with Summerlins Seven Seas, Inc., for construction of two boardwalks, an <br />overlook pier, and a canoe landing at the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area, and that the Board <br />authorize County staff to proceed with other administrative tasks as necessary to facilitate completion <br />of the project in accordance with the Agreement. <br />30 <br />September 2, 1997 <br />
