BOOK U PAGE <br />Chairman Eggert inquired if any of these grant dollars would go to "dial -a -ride" and <br />Director Keating responded in the affirmative. He explained that"dial-a-ride" is really part <br />of the fixed route system now since the Council on Aging revised its fixed route system. It <br />is now consolidated and the "dial -a -ride" system compliments the fixed route system by <br />feeding into the fixed route system. <br />The Chairman opened the public hearing and asked if anyone wished to be heard in <br />this matter. There being none, she closed the public hearing. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Ginn, SECONDED BY <br />Commissioner Adams, the Board unanimously adopted <br />Resolution No. 97-144 authorizing the filing of an application <br />with the United States Department of Transportation for a grant <br />under 49 USC Chapter 53, Section 5307, as recommended in the <br />Memorandum. <br />It amused Commissioner Tippin that, in a county the size of Indian River, this <br />grant was considered to be for "mass transportation". <br />COPY OF GRANT APPLICATION IS <br />ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />RESOLUTION NO. 144 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN <br />APPLICATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, <br />UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FOR A GRANT UNDER 49 USC <br />CHAPTER 53, SECTION 5307. <br />WHEREAS, the Secretary of Transportation is authorized to make grants for a mass <br />transportation program of projects and budgets; <br />WHEREAS, the contract for financial assistance will impose certain obligations upon the <br />applicant, including the provision by it of the local share of project costs in the program; <br />WHEREAS, it is required by the U.S. Department of Transportation in accordance with the <br />provisions of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the U.S. Department of Transportation <br />requirements thereunder, and <br />22 <br />December 2, 1997 <br />
