PROCLAMATIONDEsiGNATING FEBRUARY 8 THROUGH 14,1998 As <br />BURNAWARENEss WEEKININDIANRwER COUNTY <br />The Chairman presented the following Proclamation: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING FEBRUARY 8 -14,1998 <br />AS BURN AWARENESS WEEK IN <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, severe bum injuries are a leading cause of deaths and injuries in North America, <br />especially among young children; and <br />WHEREAS, every year more than 2 million people suffer bum injuries of some Idnd, and more <br />than one of every 3 bum victims are children; and <br />WHEREAS, approximately seventy-five percent of all burn injuries and deaths are preventable; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Shrine of North America operates 4 Shriners Hospitals that provide free <br />medical care to severely burned children; and <br />WHEREAS, the Shrine ofNorth America and Shriners Hospitals join with other bum facilities <br />across the nation in recognizing the seriousness of this hazard and the urgent need to educate the public <br />about burn prevention and fire safety; and <br />WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate to acimowledge the contributions of the Shrine of <br />North America and to commend the Shriners for their continued support and care for young bum <br />victims: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week ofFebruaâ–ºy 8-14,1998 <br />be designated as <br />BURN AWARENESS WEEK <br />in Indian River County, and the Board encourages all citizens to support the Sbriners Bums Institutes <br />and to take appropriate precautions to protect their families from devastating burn injuries. <br />Dated this 10 day of February, 1998. <br />FEBRUARY 10, 1998 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />-2- <br />
