Staff recommends that the Board approve the Committee's request. <br />1) Minutes of the Feb. 5, 1998 Parks & Recreation Committee meeting <br />2) Above referenced letter <br />Commissioner Eggert pointed out that the name has been requested for the baseball <br />field within Gifford Park, not for the park itself. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED <br />BY Commissioner Adams, to name the new Gifford Park Junior <br />League baseball field "The Jackie Robinson Memorial Field". <br />Under discussion, Vice Chairman Macht commented that he agreed with sportscaster <br />Howard Cosell that the greatest day in baseball was when Jackie Robinson took the field. <br />The Vice Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and the motion <br />passed unanimously. (4-0, Chairman Tippin absent) <br />Freddie Woolfork, president of the Gifford Progressive Civic League and Director <br />of the Gifford Youth Activity Center, thanked the Board for their support this past Sunday <br />at the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Gifford Youth Activity Center, and for approving the <br />naming of the field. It allowed the opening of a partnership with the Dodgertown personnel <br />and the Dodger organization. Jackie Robinson will be a very positive roll model for the <br />youngsters who participate in the activities on the new field. <br />Commissioner Ginn mentioned that four of the Dodger players were at the grand <br />opening on Sunday and made a very fine presentation. <br />11.G.2.
