BUDGET AMENDMENT #018 - EMERGENCY MEDICAL <br />DISPATCH PROGRAM AT THE 9-1-1 COMMUNICATIONS CENTER <br />IMPLEMENTATION APPROVED: FUNDING AUTHORIZED: AND <br />SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE OF THE ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC <br />SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICIALS INSTITUTE EMD <br />SYSTEM SOFTWARE/FLIP CARDS AND TRAMING SUPPLIES <br />APPROVED <br />Emergency Services Director Doug Wright reviewed a Memorandum of April 15, <br />1998: <br />TO: Honorable Board of County Commissioners <br />THROUGH: Jim Chandler, County Administrator <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director of Emergency Services and ` <br />Indian River County 9-1-1 Coordinator <br />DATE: April 15, 1998 <br />SUBJECT: Approval To Implement An Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Program at the <br />9-1-1 Communications Center; Funding Authorization; and Sole Source Purchase <br />of The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Institute <br />EMD System Software/F1ipCards and Training Supplies — BUDGET AMENDMENT 018 <br />The 9-1-1 Communications Center has not in the past, and does not presently, have an Emergency <br />Medical Dispatch (EMD) program. Staff from the Department of Emergency Services and the <br />Sheriff's Office is proposing that the Board of County Commissioners favorably consider <br />establishing an EMD Program for Indian River County. Staff submits that there have been many <br />recent instances in which an EMD program would have been beneficial both to family members <br />of victims in life threatening situations and individuals willing to assist victims if the 9-1-1 Call <br />April 28, 1998 <br />67 <br />
