<br />The County Administrator's Office received a letter dated March 12, 1998 from FDCA stating that
<br />Indian River County has been allocated $157,777 in federal grant funds for FY 1998/99, the same
<br />amount as last year, to fund local anti-drug abuse programs. The letter also requested the Board to
<br />serve as the coordinating unit of government in applying for the funds. The Board, during its
<br />March 24, 1998 regular meeting, accepted the invitation to serve as the coordinating unit of
<br />government and named Joseph A Baird, Office of Management and Budget, Director, as the contact
<br />person.

<br />The grand total of all four projects is $210,369.00. If a project cannot be implemented due to the
<br />budget cuts, then the money allocated for the project will be redistributed to other projects already
<br />listed.
<br />The M.A.C.E. Unit, Substance Abuse Council and T.A.R.G.E.T. receive their match from Indian
<br />River County Board of County Commission funds since they are agencies of the County. New
<br />Horizons makes the entire match themselves.
<br />Copies of the grant applications are on file in the County Commission office for the Board's review.
<br />RECOMMENDATION
<br />Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners approve the Substance Abuse Council's
<br />recommendations and authorize the Board chairman to sign the grant applications and other necessary
<br />related documents for submittal to the state by the deadline of June 15, 1998.
