HURRICANE EVACUATION PROCEDURES AND <br />PUBLIC INFORMATION <br />The Board reviewed a Memorandum of August 26, 1998: <br />TO: Board of County Commitssioners <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director <br />Emergency Services <br />DATE: August 26, 1998 <br />SUBJECT: Hurricane Evacuation Procedures and Public Information <br />At the request of a County Commissioner, I will present a short presentation to the Board on <br />September 1, 1998, pertaining to information related to hurricanes as follows: <br />Hurricane Categories : Saffir-Simpson Scale <br />Actions to be taken during Hurricane Watch vs. Hurricane Warning <br />County Emergency Operations Center coordination activities (Emergency Support <br />Functions) <br />Regional & State coordination of evacuation routes and information <br />Public Access channel 13 & 35 (Routinely Monday & Thursday) (Every day during threat <br />at 6:00PM) <br />Protective Actions <br />Public notification <br />Television cable override <br />800 MHZ communications system <br />Evacuation Routes <br />Shelter Information <br />Damage assessment requirements <br />Re-entry into damaged areas <br />Web Site (www.h=.com) <br />Hurricane presentations by staff (estimated 120 this fiscal year) <br />Availability of hurricane awareness information (hurricane preparedness tape broadcast <br />prior to season) <br />Hopefully, this information will be of value to citizens who may be unfamiliar with the above <br />information and procedures and staff submits that efforts to educate the public in this regard will <br />continue to be paramount in the Department's planned activities. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Eggert, this itemwas <br />deferred until September 8, 1998. <br />SEPTEMBER 1, 1998 <br />-92- <br />
