Mary Bouchard, the bookkeeper/grant writer for the Coalition, responded to <br />questions specific to monthly costs and pointed out their difficulties in obtaining grants due <br />to lack of an audit. That impediment will be cleared soon. <br />Commissioner Ginn advised that she had recently attended a Housing Summit and had <br />the name of someone who could assist the Coalition in seeking funding from various sources. <br />Ms. Bouchard estimated the following monthly costs: <br />$1,100 <br />Utilities <br />700 <br />Food costs (variable depending on food donations) <br />140 <br />Paper goods <br />200 <br />Office supplies and other <br />8,000 <br />Personnel salaries (24-hour) <br />1,600 <br />Payroll taxes <br />500 <br />Telephone (Internet usage) <br />300 <br />Van insurance, gas, etc. <br />Frank Zorc, 2044 Deleon Avenue, pointed out that Vero Beach and Indian River <br />County are unique and appealed to the Board for some financial aid to the Coalition. <br />Dr. Kim Crawford, 1435 Corona Lane, stated that homelessness can happen to <br />anyone. She stipulated that the Coalition had a 75% rate of return to society and asked the <br />Commissioners to support the Coalition. <br />Anthony Keefer, 506 Indian Lilac Road, stated the Coalition for the Homeless does <br />good work and advocated support for the Coalition. <br />Dorothy DeBenedictis, a volunteer for the Coalition, pointed out that the Coalition <br />also has a walk-in center for food distribution to families who cannot afford at times to feed <br />their children. They also provide clothing for children. <br />Ed Barrett, 1719 25th Avenue, Vice President of the Coalition, told of his <br />homelessness in 1991 and implored the Commissioners to help the Coalition. <br />Rev. Richard Speck, 2115 15' Place, urged the Commissioners to allocate funds to <br />the Coalition. <br />Vickie Nichols, 2230 53`d Avenue, was proud that the County has a Coalition for the <br />Homeless to act as a safety net for all people in the county who might become homeless. <br />She urged the Commissioners to give emergency funding to the Coalition. <br />September 16, 1998 <br />3 <br />800x 10.7 PAGE 5 <br />
