BOOR 107 FACE 30:x. <br />5. PROCLAMATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS <br />S.A. Italian Heritage and Culture Month - October 1998 <br />Chairman Tippin read and presented the following to Joe Martorana. <br />II PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, the month of October, 1998 has been declared to be <br />Italian Heritage and Culture Month by the President of the United <br />States and by the Governor of -the State of Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, there are four major organizations of Americans of <br />Italian ancestry in Indian River County, namely, the Italian American <br />Civic Association, Inc., the Ladies Auxiliary of the Italian American <br />Civic Association, the Giordano Lodge No. 2571 of Vero Beach, Order <br />Sons of Italy in America, and the Italian American War Veterans, Post <br />3 of Vero Beach; and <br />WHEREAS, the above-named organizations composed of County <br />residents of Italian ancestry have organized "Italian American Clubs" <br />in order to provide an agency in which the Club members, some of whom <br />are not of Italian ancestry, can work together volunteering their time <br />and energy to activities beneficial to the community -at -large; and <br />WHEREAS, county residents of Italian ancestry have played a <br />significant role in the development of the economic, educational and <br />cultural life of Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, the aforesaid -four organizations jointly petition the <br />Indian River County Board of County Commissioners to proclaim October <br />as Italian Heritage and Culture Month in commemoration of the 506th <br />Anniversary of the Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, a <br />brave Italian sailor from Genoa, Italy: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD <br />OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS that the month of October, 1998 be proclaimed <br />ITALIAN HERITAGE and CULTURE MONTH <br />in Indian River County, and the Board further recognizes the various <br />Italian American Clubs of Indian River County for their efforts in the <br />betterment of the county, and extends its heartiest congratulations <br />and best wishes to the members of these various Clubs on the occasion <br />of the various activities that will be held during the month of <br />October, 1998. <br />Adopted this 20 day of October, 1998. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Jdhn W.
