Voice ofDemocracy Week - Week of November Z, 1998 <br />Chairman Tippin read and presented the following to Charlie Cox. <br />_ II PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF <br />NOVEMBER 2.1998 AS <br />"VOICE OF DEMOCRACY WEEK" <br />IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, one of the basic aims of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, as set forth in its <br />Congressional Charter, is "to foster true patriotism;" and <br />WHEREAS, the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign <br />Wars of the United States and its Ladies Auxiliary, has proven to be an effective instrument for putting <br />these words into action; and <br />WHEREAS, the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Contest, in this, its 52nd year, provides an <br />opportunity for high school students to think, write and speak up for our country, for freedom and for <br />democracy; and <br />WHEREAS, this year's theme, "MY SERVICE TO AMERICA" focuses the attention of <br />tomorrow's leaders on our Democracy and how their guidance will preserve democracy as a way of life <br />for the future of our Republic; and <br />WHEREAS, an active, dedicated and resourcef d population is vital to the preservation of freedom <br />as our nation continues in its third century <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of November 2, 1998 <br />be designated as <br />VOICE OF DEMOCRACY WEEK <br />in Indian River County, and the Board commends the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary <br />for their sponsorship of the 52nd annual Voice of Democracy Program; and <br />The Board also calls on the 10th, I Ith and 12th grade students to think, write and speak up for the <br />future of democracy as they address the theme, "MY SERVICE TO AMERICA. <br />Adopted this 20th day of October, 1998. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSION <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />(�ioinW. pin, C/f�ir&an <br />Charlie Cox expressed appreciation for the Commission's recognition on behalf of <br />the Veterans of Foreign Wars. <br />October 20, 1998 <br />0 it <br />
