BOOK i W PAGE �52 <br />also wanted the Board to hold a referendum for the people who have to pay the tax. <br />In response to questions of Commissioner Ginn, Mr. Tabar explained how oceanfront <br />properties owned by the Federal and State governments will pay, as well as privately owned <br />properties. Mr. Tabar specified that staff has been working with the State of Florida and they <br />have earmarked in excess of $10 million (over the next 10 years) to contribute to our beach <br />preservation plan. Additional information will be forthcoming with the funding <br />presentations. <br />Mr. Legwen requested clarification on the remarks of Mr. Tabar above, and Mr. <br />Tabar clarified for him and Commissioner Adams added that all that information will be <br />enumerated in the presentation of the financial information at a future meeting. <br />input. <br />Mr. Coffey suggested two workshops be held to inform the public and to get their <br />Mr. Zorc urged that a referendum of the entire county electorate should be held, not <br />just those oceanfront property owners. <br />It was determined that no one else wished to be heard and the Chairman closed the <br />public hearing. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Adams, SECONDED <br />BY Commissioner Stanbridge, to adopt the resolution. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Ginn believed that it was in the best interest of all <br />the residents of Indian River County that the beaches be preserved. Because of the beach <br />erosion, "the property owners are almost begging for help." She was in favor of moving <br />ahead, and did not want to hold back, but she was concerned that Applied Technologies had <br />not met their deadlines under the contract terms, therefore the Board was hurried and the <br />public was not completely informed. She questioned Mr. Tabar about the timetable of the <br />financials. <br />W.
