• <br />Doors/windows: Doors and windows should be symmetrical in <br />placement, and should be true divided lite [light]. Casing trim <br />should be four (4) to six (6) inches and workable shutters sized to <br />fit windows are encouraged. <br />C. Siding: Siding should be wood horizontal or vertical boards or <br />shake. <br />d. Porches/arcades: The use of wide overhangs which create porch or <br />arcade -like features is strongly encouraged. For instance, <br />commercial buildings should provide front walkways which are a <br />minimum of ten (10) feet wide. This width accommodates two (2) <br />to three (3) abreast pedestrian traffic while allowing for entrance <br />door swing area. Awnings are also encouraged to add color and <br />textural interest to buildings. <br />Cornice detailing: Open exposed rafter tails are encouraged. <br />Lighting: The use of thematic lot lighting and signage is <br />encouraged. <br />2. Piers, Docks, and Boatslips Definition Revisions of LDR Chapter 901 <br />The following definitions of Chapter 901 are hereby modified or established as follows: <br />Pier, vU&& a structure extending in, on, or over waters of the state, which is used by the <br />genal public primmiiq for fishing, swimming orroiewing . wildlife observation. or other <br />water dependent activities. A public pier shall not include a dock, as defined here ia in <br />this section and shall be desianed and built in a manner that prohibits the mooring or <br />launching of a boat. A up blic pier is built. used. otterated. or owned by a goverrLm=PLn+�I <br />entity. <br />Main access pier the walkway which connects a riparian owner's propgM to a terminal <br />platform. The main access pier is not used to moor a boat. <br />Terminal & orm that part of a dock or pier. including fin= piers. that is connected to <br />the main access pier, is located at the terminus of the facility. and is designed to secure <br />and load or unload a boat on docks. or conduct other water -dependent activities on piers. <br />The terminal platform does not include the main access pier. <br />Water dependent activity an activity which can only be conducted on. in. ovm or adjacent <br />to. water areas because the activity requires direct access to the water body for <br />importation. recreation. energy production or transmission. or source of water and <br />where the use of the water is an integnlpart of the activity. <br />SEPTEMBER 28, 1999 <br />• <br />-105- MOO a v <br />
