Keating reviewed the memorandum <br />and introduced the speaker from the Regional Planning Council. <br />Michael Busha, Executive Director of the Regional Planning Council, 10 Palm Court, <br />Jensen Beach, asked the Commissioners for their patience to listen to the next speaker on <br />behalf of the Economic Development Council who would advise them of the advantages of <br />joining. <br />Greg Vaday, 5620 S. E. Windsong Lane, Stuart, Economic Development <br />Coordinator with the Regional Planning Council, gave a comprehensive presentation <br />covering its history and formation, its mission, the envisioned future tasks which are still <br />evolving, and the benefits and opportunities of participation. In closing, he hoped the Board <br />would approve the recommendation of the Economic Development Council to join the <br />Economic Development District and appoint five members to join the Regional OED <br />Committee. <br />Chairman Macht advised that he had served on a similar committee in another <br />jurisdiction and found it to be very beneficial. He felt there was no reason not to join, <br />particularly with equal representation. <br />Commissioner Tippin spoke as chairman of the Economic Development Council. He <br />has been very conservative and the philosophy is changing and state agencies are assisting <br />rather than policing. He thought joining was timely. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Tippin, SECONDED <br />BY Commissioner Stanbridge, to approve the recommendation <br />as set out in the memorandum. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Ginn saw the main benefit as our eligibility to apply <br />for grants, but she was concerned that grants come with strings and create obligations.
