Radke; Economic Development Planner <br />DATE: December 15, 1999 <br />RE: CONSIDERATION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY'S PARTICIPATION IN <br />FLORIDA'S EXPEDITED PERMITTING PROCESS (PUBLIC WORKSHOP) <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of Count%, <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of January 4, 2000. <br />In October 1999, the county was successful in obtaining a 1999 Department of Manasement Sen•ices <br />DMS) One -Stop Permitting Grant totaling S7.906. Funds from this grant will be used to purchase <br />Elie necessary equipment and software to develop an official county web site. As pan of the <br />qualifying process for this grant, the county must consider participating in Florida's Expedited <br />Permitting Process. <br />In 1997, the "Expedited Permitting Review Process" was initiated by the State of Florida to allo%% <br />significant economic development projects to obtain expedited review of all required state and <br />regional permit applications and, at the option of a participating local government, local permit <br />orders, development of regional impact development orders. and comprehensive plan amendments. <br />Projects eligible to use the expedited review process must meet the following requirements: <br />creation of 100 jobs that pay high wages, or; <br />50 jobs if the project is located in an enterprise zone, in a county which has a <br />population of fewer than 75.000, or in a county which has a population of fewer than <br />100,000 which is contiguous to a county having a population of 75,000 residing in <br />incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county; <br />JANUARY 4, 2000 <br />
