Environmental protection (FDEP). The amount for the grant is <br />$50,000 to deploy 2,000 tons of concrete railroad ties offshore of <br />Sebastian Inlet in four (4) reef site locations. All locations are <br />approximately nine miles offshore and at water depths ranging from <br />66 to 73 feet. These reefs will be used to initiate a pilot <br />research project to study habitat and fisheries resource <br />enhancement. This project will be the second of its type in the <br />United States. <br />Grant Agreement No. 99053 <br />In addition to the above grant, the County has received funds to <br />complete side scan sonar surveys of the County's artificial reefs. <br />This grant is for $10,000 to perform the surveys. These surveys <br />will be used to map the ocean floor in order to accurately record <br />the locations of the reefs. <br />County staff has reviewed the attached agreements and finds the <br />conditions acceptable. The reef deployment and mapping must be <br />completed by June 30, 2000 and June 30, 2001 respectively. Both <br />grant agreements are on a cost reimbursement basis. <br />The alternatives are as follows: <br />Aiternative NO. 1. <br />Approve the Artificial Reef Grant Agreement for $50,000 and Mapping <br />Grant Agreement for $10,000 on a cost reimbursement basis. Funding <br />to be from the Beach Preservation Fund. <br />Deny the Grant Agreements. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND MWING <br />Staff recommends Alternative No. 1 whereby approving Grant <br />Agreements No. 99087 and 99053. Funding to be from the Beach <br />Restoration Fund. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Ginn, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Stanbridge, the Board <br />unanimously approved the Artificial Reef Grant <br />Agreement for $50,000 and Mapping Grant <br />Agreement for $10,000 on a cost reimbursement <br />basis with funding to be from the Beach Preservation <br />Fund, as recommended by staff. <br />COPIES OF GRANT AGREEMENTS FOR FWCC GRANT NO. 99053 <br />AND FWCC GRANT NO. 99087 ARE ON FILE IN THE _ <br />OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD <br />JANUARY 4, 2000 <br />0 <br />-42- <br />
