r1 <br />L_J <br />She advised how grants have been applied for, followed up, and yet have not been <br />received in spite of vigorous efforts. She advised that if all the grants are received, the <br />County would only have spent about $1,300, but if none are received, the cost to the County <br />would be around $5,800. <br />Vice Chairman Ginn requested the Board appropriate an additional $1, 862.66 to cover <br />the cost of a part-time employee to staff a Census 2000 Questionnaire Assistance Center in <br />the lobby of the County Administration Building from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays from <br />March 1511 to April 10, 2000. She also requested approval for the County to apply for a <br />Partner Initiative Project grant from the Federal government. The maximum reimbursement <br />allowed for the employee from the U.S. Census Bureau is $2,499; if/when that grant is <br />received, it will reduce the County's cost. <br />Vice Chairman Ginn also asked for permission to order an additional 500 buttons. <br />Vice Chairman Ginn praised her committee and volunteers for having done an <br />excellent job with little monies and compared the dollar amount with Collier County's <br />appropriation of $150,000 and efforts which were late starting. They have a population of <br />210,000, ours is 105,000. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Chairman Adams, SECONDED BY <br />Commissioner Tippin, to honor Vice Chairman Ginn's requests <br />and congratulated her on a job well done. <br />Chairman Adams wanted to add that Collier County's emblem is a turkey and felt that <br />said it all. She also stated that approximately $2,000 per person comes back to the county <br />for each additional person who is counted. <br />Commissioner Tippin agreed Vice Chairman Ginn has done a great job and he was <br />so convinced, he quipped that he will be counted twice. <br />March 7, 2000 <br />�3 <br />t't,GE <br />U <br />
