C <br />WHEREAS, this new county would be created from the northern portion of St. Lucie County, <br />and would become the 65i° county of Florida 67 counties, and named for the beautiful and ancient <br />Indian River, <br />WHEREAS, in the year 2000, Indian River County will celebrate its 75m Year of creation and <br />a Jubilee of festivals will occur. This Jubilee will be entitled a Diamond Jubilee, because huiian River <br />County is the Diamond of the Treasure Coast of Florida and the United States, <br />And, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County <br />that the month of March in this Year 2000 be declared History Month throughout the County, <br />And that the citizens of Indian River County and visitors celebrate with joy the establishment <br />of Indian River County during this Month and, especially, on March 25 from 10:00 to 4:00 in <br />Pocahontas Park in the county seat of Vero Beach <br />Adopted this 10 day of March, 2000. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />rz�o'-A-is <br />Fran B. Adams, Chairman <br />Don Bercaw accepted the Proclamation on behalf of all the historical groups in the <br />County and expressed his appreciation to the Board for their support. <br />Judy Boyle commented that she is also a member of the Planning Committee for the <br />Diamond Jubilee Celebration which will take place between 10 and 4 on Saturday, March <br />25"`. She stated that the 75"` Celebration means a lot to her because she grew up at <br />Pocahantas Park. She and her friends used to stop after school and throw horseshoes in the <br />Park. She specifically asked Commissioner Tippin to be at the Park at 12:00 to read the <br />Proclamation as his grandfather, George, started the celebration in 1925. <br />March 14, 2000 <br />-5- 8 0 0 K <br />• <br />
