PROCLAMATION OBSERVING APRIL 8 THROUGH 152000 AS NATIONAL <br />BLUE RIBBON WEEK IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />The Chairman presented the following Proclamation to Judy Martin: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and child <br />abuse and neglect is a serious and growing problem affecting more <br />than two million of our nation's children annually and of children <br />locally; and <br />WHEREAS, for ten years the Hibiscus Children's Center in <br />Jensen Beach has cared for abused children, with more than 30% of <br />the children served coming from Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, a donation of 4.3 acres on 12th Street in Vero Beach <br />will allow Hibiscus Children's Center to build a village of homes <br />to provide long-term children with a more home -like environment, <br />and the Hibiscus Children's Center will work in conjunction with <br />other agencies for abused children to lead a more natural <br />lifestyle; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hibiscus Children's Center is distributing Blue <br />Ribbon pins to the general public as a symbol to remind us all that <br />child abuse is a tragedy which affects each and everyone of us. <br />APRIL 49 2000 <br />• <br />
