PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING MAY 22-283 2000 AS <br />WIRELESS SAFETY WEEK <br />Chairman Adams read the following proclamation and presented it to Eric Poplar who <br />accepted it with thanks on behalf of the Vero Beach A T & T office. <br />May 16, 2000 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING MAY 22 — 28, 2000, AS <br />WIRELESS SAFETY WEEK <br />WHEREAS, the wireless telephone tib people the powierlul ability to communicate by <br />voice - almost anywhere, anydme — with family and friends, with colleagues or with police and <br />emergency service personnel; and <br />WHEREAS, inore than 90 million people In the United States today take advantage of the <br />unique convenience of the wireless phone, but along with the benefts of wireless comrnunications <br />cames an Important responsibility to use the wireless phone safely at all times; and <br />WHEREAS, AT&T Wireless Services, the Cellular T81000MITIunications Industry Association <br />(CTIA) and wireless centers across the country have sponsored Wireless Safety week each year <br />since 1890 to roars attention an Important as" messages, Each year, people with wireless <br />phones make millions of calla that help to make their communities safer — more than 100,000 <br />emergency calls a day are logged from wireless phos er, and <br />WHEREAS, as part of Wireless Safety Week, AT&T Wireless Services also encourages <br />'Good Sammiten' ads with wireless phornes when someone is In need, using phones to summon <br />assistance In emergency situations to save lives, and <br />WHEREAS, this yeat, Wireless Safety Weak leads Into Memorial Day weekend, a time <br />when thiNatng about safer an our roads and highways Is a priority, and the wireless industry also <br />ties put forth a strong effort to educate the American public of the responsibility each of us has <br />when using a wireless phone while driving. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of May 22 - 28, 2000, be <br />designated as <br />WIRELESS SAFETY WEEK <br />In Indian Rim County. <br />Adopted this le day of May, 2000. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />2 <br />0 <br />
