, <br />He explained the Continuum of Care program which was initiated to enable the <br />County to qualify for federal funding. The Task Force raised $50,000 to hire Louise <br />Hubbard and feels very fortunate to have her. They have been using an office at Riverside <br />Theatre which will no longer be available. However, the law firm of Rossway, Moore & <br />Taylor has offered a temporary space. The plan is to establish a one-stop center for homeless <br />services with a computer program which will tie all the services together. He urged the <br />Board to finalize the lease to the Homeless Assistance Center for urgently needed offices and <br />meeting rooms. The old Hibiscus Manor has been purchased to replace the 16 -bed facility <br />on US # 1 and to provide transitional housing for families with children. The purchase price <br />and rehabilitation funds have been raised from the private sector. <br />Mr. Stark also suggested that the County continue its support and consider other <br />locations including Sebastian, Gifford and Fellsmere. He stated that more than $500,000 has <br />been raised in about a year and this community has strongly shown its support for the work. <br />Chairman Adams thanked Mr. Stark for the report and for the tremendous job done <br />by the Task Force. She then introduced all the committee members who were present and <br />thanked them all for an excellent job. <br />Commissioner Macht thanked the Task Force and noted that the limit of the charge <br />originally given to them was to produce a report. They have also produced a facility and <br />half -a -million dollars to run it. Homelessness will never be entirely eliminated but we do <br />not have the right to ignore the situation.
