Radke; Economic Development Planner <br />DATE: September 26, 2000 <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR AFTER -THE -FACT AUTHORIZATION FOR THE VICE <br />CHAIRMAN TO SIGN A NOTICE OF INTENT TO APPLY FOR SMALL CITIES <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) EMERGENCY SET- <br />ASIDE FUNDING <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of County <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of October 3, 2000. <br />Recently, the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced funding availability for fiscal <br />year 2000, under the Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) <br />Emergency Set -Aside Program, to aid individuals who have had potable water wells that have <br />stopped functioning effectively as a result of the 2000 drought. DCA has allocated $1,277,279 for <br />this emergency assistance related to drought relief. <br />Funds under this emergency set-aside program are limited to assisting eligible city and county <br />governments where there is an urgent and immediate threat to the health and welfare of the <br />community due to drought conditions. This program is targeted to low and moderate income <br />families who receive water from public or private wells that have stopped functioning as a result of <br />the year 2000 drought for which no other federal, state, or local funds are available to address the <br />need. <br />To receive the application for the CDBG Emergency Set -Aside Program, the county is required to <br />complete the- "Notice of Intent to Apply for Small Cities CDBG Emergency Set -Aside Funding" <br />form and submit the form to DCA by September 25, 2000 at 5:00 PM. Since staff was notified of <br />the funding availability less than a week before the deadline, staff was unable to present the Notice <br />October 3, 2000 - <br />26 <br />BK 1 15 PG 264 <br />
