PROCLAMATION <br />HONORING DR. DENNIS SAVER <br />2001 FAMILY PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR <br />WHEREAS, Dennis F. Saver, M.D., has recently been recognized as 2001 Family <br />Physician of the Year by the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, and subsequently by the <br />American Academy of Family Physicians as the National Family Physician of the Year, and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Saver was elected by his peers at the American Academy of Family <br />Physicians, which represents more than 89,400 family physicians, family practice residents and <br />medical students nationwide; and <br />WHEREAS, the award noted that caring for the poor and underserved has been his life's <br />work; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Saver moved to Vero Beach in 1990 and volunteered for an indigent care <br />task force formed by the local medical society, and has chained the committee; and <br />WHEREAS, ten years ago he helped found the "We Care" program to encourage local <br />physicians to volunteer their medical services to Indian River County's needy; and <br />WHEREAS, many "We Caren patients are working people whose incomes are too low to <br />afford commercial health insurance, but just high enough to disqualify them for Medicaid; and <br />WHEREAS, today more than half the Countys doctors are taking 'We Care" clients at least <br />once a year, with no reimbursement, treating patients with cases too complicated to be handled <br />by the Public Health Departments primary care specialists; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Saver makes time for some °We Care" and Medicaid patients, along with <br />his paying clients, and averages about 25 patients each day. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Board recognizes the <br />humanitarian efforts of Dr. Dennis Saver and congratulates him for his accomplishments and the <br />honor he has brought to Indian River County. <br />Adopted this 10_day of October, 2000. <br />OCTOBER 10, 2000 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Fran B.
