Vice Chairman Ginn requested the addition of 13.B., a report on living conditions of <br />the elderly in the Wabasso area. <br />ON MOTION by Vice Chairman Ginn, SECONDED BY <br />Commissioner Stanbridge, the Board unanimously made the <br />requested above changes to the agenda. <br />5. PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING NATIONAL HOSPICE <br />MONTH - NOVEMBER 2000 <br />Chairman Adams read the following proclamation and presented it to Dorothy Hindert <br />who accepted it with thanks on behalf of the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) which is <br />now in its 25`' year of providing health care to the residents of Indian River County. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 2000 <br />AS NATIONAL HOSPICE MONTH <br />IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />WHEREAS, VNA Hospice is a program of the Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast <br />and provides specialized care to patients throughout Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, VNA Hospice was the first, and remains the area's only, non-profit licensed and <br />Medicare certified hospice agency; and <br />WHEREAS, VNA Hospice is the local provider of palliative care, focusing on patient comfort, pant <br />relief and family support and is committed to improving quality of life for many months, not just final days; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, individuals have a renewed focus on end -of -life care and are now placing great <br />importance on dying well, just as they have always emphasized living well; and <br />WHEREAS, VNA Hospice continues to grow to meet the needs of individuals and their families <br />by addressing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of patients in their homes; and <br />WHEREAS, VNA Hospice, through the generosity of the community, built, equipped and endowed <br />the recently opened VNA Hospice House, the area's first residence for terminally ill patients; and <br />WHEREAS, increased public awareness and understanding of hospice and palliative care will serve <br />' I to strengthen the services available throughout the community and will help ensure that such emotionally <br />supportive, cost-effective alternatives are available to all citizens; and <br />November 7, 2000 <br />2 <br />BK 1 15 PG 709 <br />
