18.04 Each employee covered hereunder shall annually receive a written evaluation assessing his <br />performance of the essential functions of the employee's job. The appraisal form shall be <br />developed by the Employer with input from the Union. <br />18.05 Newly hired employees shall serve an initial probationary period of one year. Newly hired <br />probationary employees may be dismissed at any time at the discretion of the County and are <br />not entitled to use the grievance/arbitration procedures relating to their discipline or <br />discharge, and are not entitled to payments of sick leave or vacation leave at time of <br />termination. <br />18.06 Employees who are promoted shall serve a promotion trial period of six months. If an <br />employee who is serving a trial period incurred as a result of a promotion is found to be <br />unqualified to perform the duties of the higher position, a good faith effort will be made to <br />return the employee to the position and status held immediately prior to the promotion. If the <br />employee's former position is filled, the employee may be transferred to a vacant position for <br />which the employee qualifies. If no vacancy exists for which the employee is qualified, the <br />employee will be placed in a lay-off status with recall rights. <br />18.07 Upon successful completion of their trial period, Fire Inspectors who have at least 5 years of <br />experience with Indian River County Emergency Services will be promoted to Lieutenant <br />Fire Inspector. <br />18.08The following promotional process shall be followed: <br />EXAM SCORES <br />Multiple choice written test <br />Practical scenario test <br />TOTAL MAXIMUM RAW SCORE <br />RAW SCORES: <br />29 <br />TOTAL SCORE (300 Points max) <br />100 Points max <br />200 Points max <br />300 Points <br />
