1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />WHEREAS said sewing room now gives employment and sustenance to numerous families in <br />Indian River County, Florida, and, <br />WHEREAS said sewing room is an established, active project filling a very definite <br />need and demand for aid in Indian River County, and, <br />WHEREAS it has been suggested to this Board that this project is to be or should be <br />discontinued and a new and different project set up, now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Floridf <br />in special session duly assembled do hereby express their opinion that the disoontinuation of <br />said sewing room would deprive Indian River County of public assistance badly needed by the <br />county, and that it would be unwise to discontinue an active and going project and replace it <br />with a new and untried project; <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board is opposed to the discontinuation of the oper- <br />ation of said sewing room and the replacing of it with a new project; <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent by the Clerk of this <br />body to the Senators in Congress? -of Florida, to the Representatives in Congress of the Fourth <br />Congressional District, the State W.P.A. Administrator -for the State of Florida, State Direct <br />District Director Professional .dnd Service Division, <br />Professi6nal and Service Division,/Area Supervisor Professional and Service Divisiob, and to <br />the Board of County Commissioners for St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee and Palm Beach counties. <br />The resolution was duly seconded by Commissioners Vickers and upon being put to a <br />vote the same was unanimously adopted. <br />There being no further business on motion made seconded and carried the Board then <br />adjourned. <br />ATT T : <br />-------s-ro-------------Mss-------------sews®-rr-o ------- --------- ------- <br />THURSDAY NIGHT. SEPTIMBER 26, 1940. <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County met at Court house in Vero <br />Beach, at 7:30 P. M. Thursday Night, September 26, 1940, in Special meeting with the following <br />members of the Board present: C. S. Michael, Chairman, S. B. Glover, Albert 0. Helseth, W. C. <br />Graves, Tr., and Frank C. Vickers. Also present were Chas. A. Mitchell, Attorney and Douglas <br />Baker, Clerk. <br />The Chairman announced this meeting had been called for the purpose of considering <br />the Liquor license issued to Gifford Liquor Store and such other business as might properly <br />be brought before the Board. <br />After Considerable discussion Commissioner S. E. Glover introduced the following <br />resolution and moved its adoption. <br />The Clerk of this Board is directed to write the State Beverage Director and request <br />him to investigage liquor license issued to Gifford Liquor Store with the view of revoking s <br />license for the following reasons: <br />1. That the place of business of sdid licensee, namely, Gifford Liquor Store, is not <br />situated within the corporate limits of any municipality and is located within 2500 feet of <br />several churches and which churches were in active existence prior to the issuance of any li <br />license to Gifford Liquor Store. <br />2. Because the Village of Gifford has a very large negro population and that the <br />consumption of liquor in the vicinity of Gifford Liquor Store leads to disturbances which tend <br />to be a nuisance and annoyance to theaDmmunity and its residents. <br />3. That there has been a transfer of ownership of said Gifford Liquor Store and that <br />the transfer of license to the new owner of the issuance of ee license to the new owner has <br />
