Leveraging: Chapter 67-37.007(1)(b)(c), F.A.C. and Section 420.9075(1)(a) and (1)(b3, <br />and (1)(c),F.S. <br />Assistance Strategies of the Plan are intended to increase the availability of affordable <br />residential units by combining local resources and cost saving measures into a local <br />housing partnership and using public and private funds to reduce the cost of housing. The <br />most effective strategy for leveraging SHIP funds is downpayment/closing cost strategy. <br />SHIP funds may be leveraged with or used to supplement other Florida Housing Finance <br />Corporation programs and to provide the local match to obtain federal housing grants or <br />programs. <br />G. Public Input: Chapter 67-37.005(3), F.A.C. <br />Public input in developing or amending the Local Housing Assistance Plan is solicited in <br />a variety of ways. One way is through coordination with existing committees, including <br />the Indian River County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, and the Indian River <br />County Affordable Housing Partnership committee, a group which includes housing <br />providers, social service providers, local lenders, neighborhood associations and county <br />staff. Public input is also solicited through advertisements placed in the local newspaper. <br />These advertisements announce Notices of Funding Availability as well as other <br />information. Any plan changes are reviewed by the Board of County Commissioners at <br />meetings which are noticed and open to the public. Copies of the plan are provided to <br />municipalities and interested individuals for review and comment. Copy of the plan is also <br />provided on the county's website. <br />H. Advertising and Outreach: Chapter 67-37.005(6) (a), F.A.C. <br />The county shall advertise the notice of funding availability in the Press Journal, the local <br />newspaper of general circulation and on the county website, at least 30 days before the <br />beginning of the application period. If no funding is available due to a waiting list, no notice <br />of funding availability is required. <br />I. Anti -Discrimination Policy: Section 420.9075(3)(c), F.S. <br />The county hereby acknowledges that, in accordance with the provisions of ss.760.20- <br />760.37, it is unlawful to discriminate on the basis of race, creed, religion, color, age, sex, <br />marital status, familial status, national origin, or handicap in the award application process <br />for eligible housing. <br />J. Support Services and Counseling: Chapter 67-37.005(5)(g),F.A.0 <br />Support services are available from various sources. Available support services may <br />include but are not limited to: <br />Homebuyer's educational workshops, Homeownership Counseling (Pre and Post), Credit <br />Counseling, and other support services provided by the county, by the Senior Resource <br />Association, by the Community Coach, Habitat for Humanity, and other social service <br />agencies. <br />6 <br />
