Fire service communications <br /> 2. Apparatus and equipment <br /> 3. Fire department personnel and training <br /> 4. Organizational structure <br /> 5. Facilities and location <br /> 16. Water Supply <br /> Fire Service Communications <br /> Communications'are an essential element inublic fire <br /> p defenses. Fire service communications <br /> include the facilities for the general public to report fires,including automatic means for reporting <br /> J by private fire alarm and sprinkler systems,means for operators on duty at the communication <br /> center.4o alert personnel and dispatch appropriate fire department apparatus, and facilities for <br /> communicating en route to and at the fire scene. These facilities should be adequate and reliable <br /> under adverse conditions. <br /> Apparatus and Equipment <br /> ► <br /> The fire department's apparatus and equipment consists of the items which may be transported to <br /> the fire scene and used for fire fighting or rescue purposes. These items include vehicles, pumps, <br /> hose ladders, breathing equipment and various tools and appliances. The effectiveness of a fire <br /> department is directly dependent on the adequacy and reliability of this apparatus. A fire <br /> department gives constant attention to the maintenance, testing and care of its apparatus and <br /> equipment. <br /> j Fire Department Personnel and Training <br /> A fire department is an organization which consists of a group of people trained to work together <br /> for the common objective of fire protection. To function effectively, a fire department should <br /> have an organizational structure which provides well defined lines of authority and function. <br /> Firefighters should receive on-going training in order to think clearly and act effectively when <br /> faced with dangerous situations. Realistic training facilities should be provided to simulate fire, <br /> smoke and other conditions which may be encountered. <br /> # 3 <br /> 3011 <br />
