E. Osterberg, President, Indian <br />River County Ministerial Association, requesting the Board take action prohibiting the <br />sale of intoxicating beverages and alcoholic liquors from 12:00 Saturday night to Monday <br />mornipg., 7:009 and was ordered filed. <br />Mrs. Anne Christenson, County Welfare Case Worker, appeared before the Board and <br />made a report of her activities for the month of July. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Graves, seconded by Commissioner Wadddll and darried, <br />E. E. Carter, Road and Bridge Superintendent, was instructed to prepare, furnish and equip <br />an office for Mrs. Anne Christenson to be used jointly with representatives of the State <br />Welfare Office in the Court House: <br />RESOLUTT„QN TO CONGRESS --PRICE CONTROLS <br />The following motion was introduced by Commissioner Waddell and moved its adoption <br />as follows to wit: <br />WHEREAS the United States of America is threatened with a run -away inflation that <br />will impoverish her people and weaken this nation when it most needs it a strength, and <br />WHEREAS the national congress is considering a bill to prevent such ruinous <br />inflation by controlling prices and rolling back the most important commodity costs, and <br />WHEREAS the consumer and the individual in such a situation as this often feel <br />they have no effective way of making their wishes known to their national lawmakers, <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY Indian River County, Florida <br />That the United States senators and congressmen representing the people of Florida <br />give their support to a strong and vigorous price control bill that will give this Deo- <br />cf'atic national administration the weapon it needs to fight inflation. <br />That we urge all loyal Democrats to remember that this is the party of the people <br />and not of special privilege for the few, and as such, it is our obligation as Democrats to` <br />side with the people intheir desire for prices to remain stable. <br />----------- <br />Commissioner Watts seconded the foregoing Resolution which was unanimously adopted. <br />By action of the Board Commissioner Watts was appointed Chairman of State Beauti- <br />fication Committee, representing Indian River County. <br />A letter received from the Red Cross, requesting use of the Court House for shelter <br />in case of storms was ordered filed. <br />Superintdndent of Schools J. A. Thompson, appeared before the Board and requested <br />Aggistance on play grounds at Vero Bdach Schools, however no action was taken int the matter. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Graves, seconded by Commissioner Waddell, the Board <br />approved payment of a request in the sum of $100 for Indian River County Defense Council <br />raying <br />Fund toward defame expenses of same. <br />
