Smith, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller <br /> DATE: July 31, 2015 <br /> SUBJECT: Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act <br /> Indian River County Traffic Education Program Trust Fund Report <br /> Cumulative Reporting Through 6/30/15 <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> On August 20, 2002, the Board of County Commissioners adopted Ordinance Number 2002-026 creating <br /> the Indian River County Traffic Education Program Trust Fund (our fund 137). This ordinance <br /> authorized a $3 traffic ticket surcharge, which is collected by the Clerk of the Circuit Court. On <br /> September 19, 2006, the Board adopted Ordinance 2006-035 to repeal this fine. <br /> Subsequently on February 17, 2015, the Board elected to reinstate and increase the driver education fee to <br /> $5 under Ordinance Number 2015-003. The new fee is effective March 1, 2015 and is charged on each <br /> civil traffic penalty assessed in the County. As noted in the ordinance, these funds shall be used "to fund <br /> driver education programs in public and nonpublic schools". <br /> Attached to this memo is a report of the revenues and expenditures from the inception of the initial $3 fee <br /> (October 1, 2002) and includes the new $5 fee commencing in March 2015. The Board currently carries a <br /> balance of$14,571. <br /> The Clerk's office will continue to provide a quarterly report of the traffic education trust activity. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners accept the attached report. <br /> Indian River Approve Date <br /> Administrator 1 �� <br /> County Attorney <br /> Budget 1� <br /> Department <br /> Risk <br /> 97 <br />
