Keating, AICP <br />Community Development Dire for <br />FROM: Sasan Rohani, AICPS <br />Chief, Long -Range Planning <br />DATE: October 17, 2001 <br />SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE INDIAN RIVER <br />COUNTY LOCAL HOUSING ASSISTANCE PLAIN (LHAPIan) <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of County <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of October 23, 2001. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />Y' <br />2000 - <br />Consistent with state requirements, Indian River County prepared and adopted its Local Housing <br />Assistance Plan (LHAPIan) in 1993. The LHAPIan not only qualified the county to receive State <br />Housing Initiatives Program (SHIP) funds, but also has served as the policy and procedural guide <br />for administering the SHIP program. <br />Since June of 1993, the county has provided 495 SHIP loans to individual applicants who applied <br />for assistance. According to state rules and regulations as well as the county's requirements, SHIP <br />funds may also be used to supplement or match other state and federal funds. <br />For the current fiscal year, Indian River County has been allocated $997,562.00 in SHIP funds. Of <br />this amount, $550,000.00 has been set aside by the Board for clients of three groups. These groups <br />are Habitat for Humanity ($300,000), Straka & Associates (HOME Program, $150,000) and the <br />Indian River County Homeless Service Council ($ 100,000). <br />OCTOBER 23, 2001 �}1s <br />2 0 1 7 <br />[JIB 1 <br />-84- <br />
