<br /> in service since June of 1981 , approximately twenty years . When the plant was built,
<br /> t the design for the motorized overhead crane was for the lifting of motors and pumps
<br /> throughout the RO bay.

<br /> t The Indian River County Commissioners authorized the firm of Camp Dresser &
<br /> McKee Inc . to perform engineering services for membrane process optimization and
<br /> system improvements on December 7, 1999 . Among the improvement/enhancement
<br /> € suggestions was the modification of the overhead crane. (Please see attached . ) Item #8
<br /> S
<br /> of the letter sent to the County on August 11 , 2000, states that the current overhead
<br /> monorail crane system would be modified with a switch and additional length of track
<br /> t to the mezzanine above the offices . The additional track would allow the crane to lift
<br /> loads up to the mezzanine area for storage. Currently the Operators have to carry items
<br /> F. up a stairway to store them. This is a safety hazard and can be taken care of with the
<br /> modification of the current crane . When the cost estimate was proffered in August
<br /> k 20009 it was with an estimated cost of $ 6, 000. However when the actual bids came in,
<br /> the low bidder was $ 16 , 000.
<br /> RECOMMENDATION :
<br /> The staff of the Department of Utility Services recommends that the Board of County
<br /> i Commtsstoners approves and accepts the apparent low bid submitted by J. Herber
<br /> ' Corporation, of $ 16 , 000 for the modification of the overhead crane monorail . The
<br /> $ 6 , 000 . 00 budgeted will come out of 471 -000- 169-476 . 00 and the additional
<br /> a $ 10, 000. 00 will come out of R&R fund 471 -219- 536-066 . 49 .
