Additional costs for pump or casing repairs may be necessary . In the <br /> event additional services are required, staff will return to the BCC for approval . <br /> To cover the potential costs of pump and column removal and the reaming of Well No . 4 , a <br /> Contingency Services allowance is provided for in this proposal . Activities designated under this <br /> allowance of 20% of the total amount will be performed only after receiving formal approval <br /> from the Utility Department personnel . The Well casing or the pump may become damaged as a <br /> consequence of the removal of the pump and column . If this occurs , repairs to the well and,/ or the <br /> pump could exceed the contingency funds that have been set aside . The existing work <br /> authorization No . 13 , approved by the Board of County Commissioners on June 20 , 2000 , <br /> revealed to the engineers and staff, problems related to installation and deferred maintenance that <br /> now require extensive remediation . The video data collected on all four (4 )-damaged wells will <br /> be condensed for viewing at the Board of County Commissioners meeting . The cost incurred to <br /> date for work authorization No . 13 is $ 167 , 000 of a total of $ 181 , 800 and all of the approved <br /> $25 ,000 contingency . The Utility presently has $4 . 3 million in its Renewal and Replacement <br /> fund, available for this type of remediation work. <br /> Work Authorization No . 15 will likely complete the reestablishment of Wells 1 through 5 to new <br /> ii <br /> condition and provide capacity for anticipated potable water demand during this year ' s drought <br /> season , expected to be moderate to severe in duration and intensity . (See Exhibit "C" . ) <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> It is staffs recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners approve the attached Work <br /> Authorization for Professional Services for Additional Well Rehabilitation Services to CDM for <br /> the upper limit amount of $332 . 520 ( $ 277 , 100 plus $ 55 ,420 contingency services for Well No . 4 ) , <br /> and authonze the Chairman to execute same . <br /> Utilities Director Don Hubbs explained the repairs required and showed a video <br /> demonstrating some of the problems occurring with these wells . ( CLERK ' S NOTE : VIDEO <br /> IS AVAILABLE IN THE UTILITIES DEPARTMENT . ) Staff is recommending that these <br /> wells be reamed out and restored .
