Baird <br /> Assistant County Administrator <br /> FROM : Jason E . Brown <br /> Budget Manager <br /> DATE : December 27 , 2000 <br /> SUBJECT: M .A. C . E. Grant ( Multi -Agency Criminal Enforcement Unit) <br /> Discretionary Project Generated Income <br /> Budget Amendment 005 <br /> Bac!Mround and Analysis <br /> The M . A. C . E . Unit is requesting authorization to utilize project generated income ( PGI ) in the amount of <br /> $ 13 , 418 . This M . A. C . E . Unit income was generated from confiscating property in drug related activities . <br /> Funds will be utilized by the Substance Abuse Council as described in the attachments . <br /> Since the M . A. C . E . project activities receive 75 % funding from a Department of Community Affairs (DCA) <br /> grant, 75 % of PGI expenditures must be approved by the State . The remaining 25 % can be dispersed <br /> at the discretion of the local agency. <br /> Florida Statute 932 . 7055 states , ". . . any local law enforcement agency that acquires at least $ 15, 000 <br /> pursuant to the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act must expend or donate no less than 15 percent of such <br /> proceeds for the support or operation of any drug treatment, drug abuse education, drug prevention, <br /> crime prevention, safe neighborhood, or school resource officer program (s) . The local law enforcement <br /> agency has the discretion to determine which program (s) will receive the designated proceeds. " <br /> These funds constitute the 25% discretionary project generated income . Therefore , DCA approval of <br /> these purchases is not required according to the statutes . <br /> Staff Recommendation <br /> Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners approve the utilization of discretionary <br /> project generated income totaling $ 13 ,418 and authorize the attached budget amendment necessary to <br /> release the funds . <br /> JANUARY 2 , 2001 B I 1 06 i� 8 2 <br /> - 31 - <br />
