<br /> Director Keating responded to concerns of the Commissioners regarding the 4 - 3
<br /> Planning and Zoning Commission ' s vote ; the 14 - acre out- parcel being developed as
<br /> commercial (would have to be a County- initiated rezoning request) ; and limiting rezoning
<br /> on the property to RM - 6 rather than RM- 8 .
<br /> There was a brief discussion concerning the appropriateness of RM- 6 or RM- 8
<br /> zoning on SR 60 and the necessity and demand for multi - family housing , whether it is
<br /> affordable housing or not ,
<br /> The Chairman opened the public hearing and asked if anyone wished to be heard
<br /> in this matter .
<br /> David Knight, Knight & McGuire & Associates , Inc . , appeared representing the
<br /> applicant . He pointed out that the land use plan supports RM - 8 in this area and that there
<br /> is a need for multi - family housing in the community . He stressed that RM- 8 is not high
<br /> density with respect to most multi - family projects . He stated that the adjacent RS - 6
<br /> property was built in the 1960 ' s when water and sewer connections were not available
<br /> and cautioned that non - approval of RM- 8 will encourage expansion of the urban service
<br /> area for future multi - family needs . He asked the Board to consider these points and
<br /> encouraged the Board to follow staff' s recommendation for RM- 8 zoning .
<br /> John Servos . 1745 7151 Court , pointed out that there is only a short frontage of this
<br /> proposed development on SR 60 . He thought RM- 8 zoning was a little bit too much for ;
<br /> the area because these "high- rises " will be in the "backyards " of the homes (zoned RS - 6 )
