• <br />FROM: SARAFi NICHOLS ./“..2.4c--- <br />EDUCATION <br />2K--EDUCATION & BUSINESS OUTREACH COORDIi iATOR <br />SUBJECT: RECOGNITION FOR 2ND ANNUAL GREEN BUSLNESS AWARD <br />RECIPREANTS <br />BACKGROUND <br />In an attempt to continue promoting awareness and rewarding IocaI business for their recycling efforts, <br />the Solid Waste Disposal District together with Keep Indian River Beautiful (KIRB) presented the <br />GREEN BUSTVi ESS AWARDS on September 19`h 2002 to three local businesses at the IRC Chamber of <br />Commerce's Industry Appreciation Awards Luncheon. <br />Three categories for recycling achievement have been established for the awards. Tney are <br />Manufacturing/Agricultural, Hospitality and Retail/Office. The winners are chosen with the highest <br />recycling tonnage from the previous year's Solid Waste Disposal Assessment list. <br />The winners were: <br />Perfection Trusses — Dave Turner <br />Manufacturing/Agricultural <br />241.82 tons scrap lumber & cardboard <br />Village Beach Market -Jerry Keen <br />Hospitality <br />30.35 tons cardboard, meat & grease <br />Indian River Mall — Patricia Jamar <br />Retail/Office <br />114.24 tons cardboard <br />RECONBIENDATION <br />It is requested that these three businesses be recognized at the November 12, 2002 Board of County Commissioners <br />meeting during the proclamations and presentations portion for their environmental commitment and the example <br />they present for the rest of the IRC business community. <br />Ms. Nichols named the recipients of the 2nd annual Green Business Awards and expressed <br />her regret that they were not able to be here today.
